Products from the Lac Seul Forest

The forest in which we operate contains a mixture of tree species both softwood (conifer) and hardwood (deciduous). The foresters and staff at Obishikokaang Resources are committed to the proper utilization of the forest resource.

Obishikokaang Resources along with Chief and Council continue to evaluate ways to maximize the value of the forest, providing new economic opportunities to Lac Seul First Nation while operating in a sustainable manner.

The softwood species ( jack pine, white and black spruce and balsam fir) are processed at the roadside and sent to Domtar’s facility in Dryden or to sawmills to be processed into lumber. The hardwood species, (poplar and birch) are cut into logs and sent to Weyerhaeuser’s mill in Kenora to make manufactured trusses used in the construction of buildings and houses. Birch and dry pine are also harvested and delivered to local communities to heat our homes in the winter!
