Learn more about Forest Management Planning

Sustainable forest management is truly a complex balancing act. All forest management activities on the Lac Seul Forest are governed by the Forest Management Plan. This plan provides the direction required to manage the forest in a sustainable manner, ensuring all environmental values and stakeholder interests are considered.

Forest operations must be planned and conducted in a manner that ensures an economic flow of wood but also facilitates the regeneration of the next forest and long term forest sustainability.

Operations are planned and monitored to minimize impacts on water quality, soils and wildlife habitat. Access to such important traditional uses such as hunting, fishing, trapping and berry picking, must also be protected as well as culturally sensitive areas.

The remoteness of the forest must also be maintained by reducing forest roads and providing buffers around lakes and rivers.
